Check out the message on Lance Armstrong's ride in yesterday's Individual Time Trial stage of the Tour de France (sent from Lance's Twitter account). The art on the bike is by artist Yoshimoto Nara. More pictures of the bike can be seen at the Trek Bikes website.
Lance is really an inspiration. I have to admit, I was apprehensive and skeptical when I heard that he was coming out of retirement. I thought, "oh no, not another athlete past his prime trying to get back in the limelight." Yet, his performance in the Tour de France this year proves that he is still among the elite in the sport. Competing throughout his career without using performance enhancing substances*, yet still suffering by association with a sport tarnished by more than its share of doping scandals, he currently sits 3rd in the Overall Classification with only two stages left in the Tour.
Even with his achievements on the bike and his story as a cancer surviror, the most inspiring thing about the man may be his work through his Livestrong foundation. I encourage you to browse around livestrong.org and see if anything inspires you.
* It is only fair to acknowledge that there is a vocal minority who are skeptical of this claim. Given the extensive testing Armstrong has been subjected to (and the sometimes sketchy nature of this testing), the lack of an incontrovertible positive test over his entire career is convincing to me that Armstrong is "clean".
